Q: What type of sod do you install?
A. Our sod is hybrid turf tall fescue.


Q: How often do I need to water my sod?
A. Water is the key to establishing a newly soded lawn.
    1. Water sod thoroughly and immediately after it is installed, regardless of outside temperature.
    2. Water sod daily for the first three weeks or until sod has rooted.
    3. If sod is installed in temperatures above 75 degrees, it must be watered 2-3 times daily.
    4. Water in the early morning, late afternoon or evening.
    5. Once established, reduce watering to once every 3-5 days based on seasonal conditions


Q: What is the proper way to mow my sod?
A. Proper mowing is very important to a healthy lawn. Scalping is guaranteed to kill your lawn.
    1. Sod must be completely rooted before mowing, typically ready in about 3 weeks.
    2. Set your lawn mower at its highest setting, usually 3".
    3. Keep mower blades sharp. Dull blades tear grass, leaving it looking unhealthy and brown.
    4. Mow often enough to ensure that you never remove more than 1/3 of the grass blade.
    5. Never mow wet grass or leave heavy clippings.


Q: What are your recommendations for fertilizing?
A. 1. Fertilization is not required upon installation
2. Fertilizer should not be applied during the first 30-60 days.
3. Fertilize in mid September and October at least 30 days apart.
4. Follow a regular turf management program by contacting a local lawn service.


Q: How can I prevent weeds from growing?
A. Apply a pre-emergence crabgrass / weed control each spring, when the forsythia (common yellow blooming shrubs) have bloomed.


Q: What do I do if my sod develops brown patches?
A. 1. Brown patches are common during periods of extreme temperatures and high humidity.
2. Lack of water and presence of fungus are the two most common cause of brown area.


Helpful Hints:
1. Over-seed in the fall with your preference of Tall Fescue. (Rebel, Titan II, etc.)
2. Keep all traffic off newly sodded areas until rooted.
3. Remove leaves from the sod areas in the fall.
4. Avoid traffic on the sodded areas when frost is present.

Above all, use common sense when caring for your sod. Remember, sod is grown from seed, cut and relayed and needs to be treated as if you had grown it yourself.
